Brazil Africa Forum 2020: Overcoming the challenges of the pandemic – what’s next?

In an unprecedented online edition taking place on 3-4 November, the Brazil Africa Forum 2020 will gather together global authorities to discuss the post-pandemic and foster new business opportunities

Fortaleza, Brazil, Oct 7th – With all the difficulties that the world faces at this time, it is increasingly clear that international cooperation is a fundamental tool for overcoming global challenges. Thus, the Brazil Africa Forum 2020, in a free and 100% online edition, presents itself as one of the main opportunities for fostering cooperation and business between Brazil and the African continent.

Organized by the Brazil Africa Institute (IBRAF) and co-organized by the SouthBridge Group, the event will gather, on November 3 and 4, global leaders, government and private sector representatives, academics and potential investors to exchange experiences and discuss the scenario and challenges for the post-pandemic.

“We are working to expand and improve the scope of options for our events, in addition to developing a series of new initiatives in collaboration with our partners. The online experience of the Brazil Africa Forum this year will allow greater public participation, from anywhere in the world, and will increase engagement with the discussions” says João Bosco Monte, President of IBRAF.

The 2020 edition confirms the Brazil Africa Forum as the most relevant business environment in the segment. Together, IBRAF and the SouthBridge Group, the holding company of a pan-African enterprise that provides financial solutions and advisory services to public and private clients across the African continent, reinforce BAF as a platform to facilitate the approach of Brazilian entrepreneurs to African opportunities.

Among the confirmed speakers, the financial sector is represented with Benedict Oramah, President of Afreximbank; Serge Ekue, President of the West African Development Bank (BOAD), Cláudia Prates, of the American Regional Office of the New Development Bank (BRICS), Kampeta Sayinzoga, CEO of the Development Bank of Rwanda, among others.

BAF 2020 counts also with two Nobel Prize laureates: American economist Michael Kremer, Nobel Prize in Economic Sciences in 2019, and Congolese doctor Denis Mukwege, 2018 Nobel Peace Prize.

International cooperation, in the technical and scientific field, will be a main topic for the dialogues during the two days of the event. BAF counts on the participation of leading experts focused on development actions of the global South, such as Otaviano Canuto, Former Vice President of the World Bank, Jorge Chediek, Director of the UN Office for South-South and Triangular Cooperation, and José Graziano da Silva, Former Director General of FAO.

From the health sector, a critical point for the current moment and for the post-pandemic, are the President of the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation, from Brazil, Nísia Trindade, and Amit N. Thakker, Chairman of the Africa Health Business.
